One day in Mělník: the chateau, the confluence and the old square
A relaxed walk through the historic centre — all of it within twenty minutes on foot from the house.
Mělník is small enough to explore in a single day, yet it has enough to keep you busy until the evening. Here is the route we recommend to our guests.
Start on Peace Square
Náměstí Míru is the heart of the old town, lined with arcades and cafés. Take a coffee and look around — and if you are curious, ask about the Mělník Underground, the network of old cellars beneath the square.
The chateau and the view
A few steps away stands Mělník Chateau. From the terrace by the Church of St. Peter and Paul you get the most famous view in town: the confluence of the Vltava and the Elbe, with vineyards on the slopes below.
Come in the late afternoon — the light over the rivers is beautiful.
Small discoveries
Look for the ossuary under the church, the Art Nouveau Villa Karola and the poesiomat, a little machine that plays poems at the push of a button.
In the evening, walk back to the quiet street where the house stands. If you need tips for dinner, just ask us.
